A History of Time
Chris is a keen cruising and racing sailor, with recent voyages to Spain, SW France, and the Danish Baltic Islands. He also competes in the annual Mermaid one-design regatta at Seaview, IoW and in the Round the Island race each year.
As a retired jeweler, he is a Liveryman of the Goldsmiths’ Company and still involved in the business (despite retiring 10 years ago!). He has lectured for over 40 years around the UK both on Hallmarks and Antique Silver and on nautical topics from Cook to Bligh and Shackleton etc., with the aim of raising money for the RNLI, and recently for the Air Ambulance. He is also involved with the Golden Dream Charity volunteering as a helper through the RYA to assist up and coming Paralympic sailors.
Chris will take us on a journey through the development of time as a concept, and how it has been measured, with examples of chronographs used in position fixing, and simply indulging in beautiful jewelry. Come along to be amazed by the quality and workmanship involved in things that we frequently take for granted.
